iPhone 15: Apple criticizes its old models to encourage you to buy it

Apple is working hard to promote the iPhone 15, which faces stiff competition. On a new page on its official website, the Apple firm encourages owners of old iPhone models to upgrade to the 2023 vintage of its smartphone.

The iPhone 15 is struggling to convince, especially in China. Apple is therefore multiplying initiatives to sell the latest vintage of its smartphone, with a lot of discounts and advertising,the latest claiming that the iPhone 15 has “lots of storage”, despite 128 GB models far from being exceptional in this area.

The latest attempt to convince consumers to date? A page comparing the performance of old iPhone models with l’iPhone 15, showing figures to support that this latest model is much superior. Obviously, old models take their place, even if their owners had not asked for anything.

On its American site, Apple has added a new page titled “Reasons to Upgrade” in French. On this page, users of older iPhone models can see what they’re missing out on by not purchasing the fifteenth edition. However, the choice is limited: Apple only shows comparisons from iPhone to iPhone, for only 3 models:

• iPhone 11
• iPhone 12
• iPhone 15

Apple did not go further by comparing models older than the iPhone 11, released in 2019. Furthermore, iPhone 13 and 14 are absent. These models are still new enough not to merit a comparison with the iPhone 15. Especially since Apple still sells these models on its official website: Cupertino would probably like to get rid of its stocks first before denigrating them like their predecessors.

Apple has made a good effort to highlight the advantages presented by the iPhone 15 over its ancestors. For example, the page states that “iPhone 15 captures up to 4 times the resolution of iPhone 11” and its GPU is 60% faster. Each statement is supported by a presentation of the data in the legend at the bottom of the page.

Faced with the Google Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24, both packed with generative AI features, there is probably panic at Apple. Apple can still boast good sales in the United States, but we must double down on advertising for the iPhone 15 in the face of these innovative competitors.
